ScoreVision Coach Trains Athletes at TVA to Keep Score

Published Mar 29, 2017, 05:01 am

We are passionate sports fans who love the game so much, we find it only natural to teach. Over half of our SV team spend their nights and weekends coaching little league baseball, club volleyball, middle school football, high school soccer and even film breakdown review. It makes sense that Colleen Hernandez, our Champion Account Manager and a club volleyball coach, train the club members at The Volleyball Academy, a brand-new 50,000-square- foot volleyball facility in Omaha, NE.

Colleen lives and breathes volleyball and has coached a variety of ages for the last 10 years. Most recently she has been coaching sixteen-year-olds with Performance Volleyball, an Omaha volleyball club that serves youth players and adult leagues.

“I believe that being a coach is so much more than running a bunch of practices and organizing games,“ Colleen said about her experience coaching. “It is about connecting with my players as people first, and athletes second. Also, there’s nothing better than watching the magic of teamwork and trust build in each other's skills, and just playing a good game of volleyball!"

Last week, Colleen spent two nights with TVA players, coaches, and parents and trained them how to operate and manage the ScoreVision system and Scorekeeper App. Over eight teams came eager to learn - with 9-10 girls from each team.

The girls were very excited to get started,” she said. “They had no issues grabbing an iPad and diving in! At times I had to tell them to slow down because they caught on so fast.”

TVA will be open year-round for training and will host club teams from all around the country for weekend tournaments. When a team isn’t on the court playing, they are serving as referees and keeping score. Sometimes their entire weekend is spent off-court setting up games, scoring matches and volunteering for any tasks the facility needs. Having an easy-to-learn system like ScoreVision was an essential factor with the decision to move forward for the facility - especially since the scorekeepers will change frequently.

This past weekend, TVA hosted Midwest Madness - a LGBT adult coed 6-on-6 tournament. Seventeen teams came together to play two full days of volleyball at the new facility. It was their first event to use our system to keep score and display sponsor ads during and between games. The schedule looks full for 2017 - and we’re excited to be a part of their journey!
