Big Time Technology for a Small Town School

Published Oct 25, 2016, 06:18 am

With budget cuts and consolidation happening all around the country, nothing gets us more excited than working with schools experiencing growth and prosperity. Grace Lutheran – a private Christian elementary, middle and high school located in Pocatello, Idaho - is a great example of this.

Grace Lutheran, recognized on both the state and national level for academic excellence, enrolled its first freshman class just this fall. As a Christian institution - accepting students of all faiths and beliefs - they’re proud to offer state-of-the-art facilities and modern technology to students and faculty. They recently expanded with a new high school building, complete with classrooms and admin offices, as well as a new gymnasium.

We recently caught up with Reverend Jonathan Dinger, Grace Lutheran’s Headmaster, to learn more about his decision to move forward with a ScoreVision system.

Here’s what Jonathan had to say:

“I was looking at spending around $8,000 for two, traditional scoreboards. That seemed like a lot of money for technology I’ve been seeing around for decades. After a quick internet search, I found the ScoreVision website and it immediately got my attention. I assumed such a system was going to cost a lot more, but I quickly realized it was much more than just a scoreboard and knew it would be a great complement to our new facilities. Once I learned about the advertising capabilities of the software, I felt confident I could find sponsors in our community that would not only want to advertise on our system and help pay for it, but would directly benefit from building their brand among our student-families. In a handful of days, we had enough interest to cover both the hardware and annual software costs of the system - so we scheduled installation.”

Purchasing the ScoreVision system was just another example of Grace Lutheran’s commitment to their students and staff. It’s also a great testament to the scalability and self-funding capabilities of the system.

When we asked Jonathan if he had any advice for AD’s or other school executives about finding the funds to upgrade their old systems, this is what he said:

“There was no chance we’d be able to purchase these on our own, but until you ask you don’t know, and that’s what we did. We asked a few local companies just to see what response we would get and it was unbelievable. We’ve got a physical therapist, a credit union, two realtors, and a corporation as sponsors. If it weren’t for these generous sponsors, we could not have done it”.

Now that installation is complete, they have used their ScoreVision system for spiritual, academic and athletic events. They even held a wedding in the gymnasium and leveraged the system to display videos and pictures throughout the ceremony. If a private school serving 15 freshmen and a community of only 50,000 can justify the investment, so can your school.
